One of the frustrating things about burning the baby fat is that as you trim your tummy when it comes to seeing results, you have to be patient. Unfortunately, losing the weight takes more time and effort than putting it on. But there is hope as our resident lifestyle Mom, Holly Rigsby of FYM states the "5 Diet DO's for Fast Results":

1. It's then and only then, that you'll be able to survive the ups and downs and be the stronger mentally and physically for it. Here's what Holly Rigsby has to say about accountability:

"Many of us start off strong with our diet and exercise plan then life happens. We miss a workout or two, have one too many cheats, go on vacation, and all of a sudden we are back to square one - afraid to start again for fear it will only lead to the same frustration and disappointment.

So why is it when you make the best effort to take responsibility and try your best make positive changes to the way you eat and exercise that you always seem to fail miserably.

If you only have yourself to answer to each day and each week, who is there to lift you up, to encourage you to stay strong, to help you forgive yourself so you can stay on track when the going gets tough? Yet, many of us still insist that we can lose weight all on our own.

You have the choice to end this cycle of failure. If you are truly serious about gaining a healthy lifestyle and reaching your fitness goals, accountability is one of the most important aspects of taking responsibility."

Trim your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-8955707349184060822008-10-29T17:15:00.000-07:002008-10-29T17:17:11.062-07:00Trim your TummyBurn the Baby Fat - It's the Small Changes that Count

We are so focused on the BIG stuff that we often forget the little things or steps that we need to be more aware of in order to get ahead with trimming your tummy. You don't need to have everything in its right place in order to start trimming your tummy. You and I both know that tomorrow never comes and we have to just face the reality that life waits for no one.

So just try your best with what you can by doing a big thing like getting a full workout in or doing a small thing like choosing to have one slice of pizza instead of two. The thing that really matters is that you are doing something and are holding fast to your goal to trim your tummy. True and lasting results come from the many small changes we make from one day to the next.

Stop procrastinating and take responsibility for your health by starting Today!

Trim your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-26446327038882285022008-10-15T13:30:00.000-07:002008-10-15T13:31:02.027-07:00Trim your TummyTrim your Tummy - Words of Advice from the Wise...

Here's another note-worthy gem of advice to trim your tummy compliments of Holly Rigsby for the answer to the ever popular question of "How can I get rid of my mommy belly?":

"This question does not always sit well with the women I speak to. Unfortunately, the diet and weight loss industry has made many fitness professionals' jobs quite hard. Women are simply bombarded with misleading ads about what it takes to get a flat, fat-free tummy. So when I present the formula for what DOES work,I am the one they wish not to believe. And thus the frustrating cycle continues. After weeks, months and even years of wasted time, energy and Money, I finally get the "cry for help". So what is the Fat-Burning-Melt-Your-Mommy-Belly formula?

1. Bypass the Gimmicks

This is where you can save yourself a ton of time, energy and keep your hard earned money in your purse! There is no "one" secret strategy/exercise/supplement to make that nagging trouble spot disappear and reveal the toned, flat belly you are after.

2. Trade a routine of AB exercises for Moves that BURN Fat

Sure! Including "Ab" exercises as part of your routine is beneficial, but the truth is - no amount of "crunches" will make the fat on your belly disappear. As far as Fat Loss and "exercise" goes - you must to use a total body approach - using resistance training to work your upper body, lower body and core with moves that incorporate many muscles at once. This is the ONLY way to exercise that will significantly boost your metabolism so your body begins to burn more fat.

Did you know? Some of the best "ab exercises" actually use your whole body! ~ My Favorites: WoodChops and Burpees ~ Work your abs, use more muscles, increase your metabolism....flat tummy results appear before your eyes! Besides, the "Abs" that you want to work through crunches are small....giving you little in return as far as fat burn is concerned. You can Burn double or even triple the amount of calories by doing full body resistance training exercises.

3. Flat Tummy Foods

Supportive nutrition is extremely important, not only to keep you energized, but to provide your body with quality nutrients to create a healthy metabolism and burn more fat. You CANNOT achieve great abs if you are putting junk into your body - no matter how great your workout program is.

Due to the fact that many women have difficulty letting go of what they think works -only a small percentage of you will actually take what I have to share and apply it. These are the women who will be proud to wear anything that respectfully displays their new, beautiful, flat tummy.

Trim your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-70710821283360525392008-10-08T15:17:00.000-07:002008-10-08T15:18:30.049-07:00Trim your TummyTrim your Tummy - How to FALL back into Shape

Okay, so you had September to get the family back into the school routine and the "I just don't have the time" excuse can no longer be used when it comes to taking action to trim your tummy. Here's what Holly Rigsby, busy Mom and CPT has to say about Falling back into shape this fall:

There is no better time than NOW to take a step back and either create a plan that works for you OR re-evaluate the plan you have been following and make some adjustments so you can continue to see results.

Think about this:

We expect our children to learn and follow a new routine.
We expect our children to recount the days lessons.
We expect our children to challenge themselves.
We expect our children to recover from the day's adversities.
We expect our children to learn from their mistakes.

Why not expect the same of ourselves?

We've motivated our children to begin a new school year, so share some of that motivation with yourself!

Here are 5 Back to School Fit Tips to get you started:

1. Avoid Morning chaos.
Prep it all the night before. Mornings do not have to start off stressing you to the max. With a little planning, everyone's day can begin with confidence and a smile.

2. Breakfast.
Take the time to eat the most important meal of the day. Moms are notorious for skipping this meal for they are simply too busy taking care of everyone else. Do something different this school year and fuel your body each and every morning. My favorite: egg white omelet, yogurt and blueberries. Quick, satisfying and super energizing.

3. Mark your calendars.
You schedule your children's events, schedule your workouts, they are just as important.

4. Eliminate Afternoon Cravings.
Enjoy an after school snack with your children. Fresh fruit and a handful of nuts is a healthy and energizing snack for everyone.

5. Get Moving.
Kids need 60 minutes of physical activity every day, so join them! Take it outside after school. Tyler's favorite back yard game - Kick Ball. We somehow manage to make him roll on the ground in laughter every time.

When you take a step back and identify the simple steps you can take each day to incorporate a fit and healthy lifestyle, it becomes 10 times more manageable.

Fall is the season to jazz up your efforts to trim your tummy and notice a positive change to how you look and feel this fall.

Trim your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-31088721504659946212008-10-01T12:08:00.000-07:002008-10-01T12:18:17.017-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - The Spirit is Willing But the Flesh is Weak

The idea to start trimming your tummy sounds wonderful when you talk about it, but has no value if no action is attached.

Well today is the day to start to trim your tummy and finally DO what you've been talking about for weeks, months, years and this is How:

Today, do something different such as:

Take 5 minutes, just for you, to simply breathe
Trade in the frappuccino for a large mug of fresh brewed green tea
Turn off the TV and go for a walk or play with your kids

Whether you choose to do something simple or small, doesn't matter. Weight loss is not only about diets and exercise but it's about making a Holistic change. It's about wellness and this is exactly the approach that makes Fit Yummy Mummy's lifestyle program REAL and successful. And as the following excerpt from Psychology Today states, to truly trim your tummy permanently requires that you address the whole YOU.

"Americans are highly motivated to lose weight—as a growing list of best-selling books and highly trafficked dieting Web sites attest. We're just not approaching it the right way. The pressure we put on ourselves to succeed—and the self-criticism we indulge in when we fall short of the mark—can have dire emotional and dietary repercussions.

Consider that pair of jeans hanging reproachfully in the closet. You realize they don't fit, and you feel unattractive and worthless. This tendency to evaluate yourself too harshly will only make you give up altogether. You want to head to the fridge for solace.

You need to identify the things you're telling yourself that cause you to feel discouraged and to throw in the towel. Don't beat yourself up when you overeat. Accept that you acted in a self-defeating way, then establish better methods to meet your goal. Review what you'd like to do and work toward that goal.

Perhaps you're not (yet) berating yourself for failures, but putting inordinate pressure on yourself to succeed. When you tell yourself, "I must lose 25 pounds by Valentine's Day, or I'll never get a date," you're setting yourself up for emotional turmoil, as well as weight-loss failure. Losing weight in a prescribed amount of time is a worthy goal, but the perfectionistic premise that sneaks into your thinking may well interfere with sensible eating and exercise.

In a perfect universe, the sight of those jeans, or the knowledge that Valentine's Day is around the corner, would elicit rational thoughts like, "I'm going to look great soon, and I'm going to enjoy the challenge of eating sensibly and exercising along the way." But few of us think that."

Trim your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-52283497320937882532008-09-17T11:16:00.000-07:002008-09-17T11:18:16.992-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - Keeping a Food Diary

We all know that if you want to trim your tummy, you need to eat right and exercise. One of the powerful tools to help make your transition to eating healthier is by keeping a food diary. A food diary is basically recording what and when you eat and drink.

A recent US study of over 1500 male and female middle-aged participants, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, found that the individuals who kept a food dairy lost about double as much weight as the individuals who did not. As Victor Stevens, who helped lead this study, of Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research in Portland states, "For those who are working on weight loss, just writing down everything you eat is a pretty powerful technique." It's so powerful that companies such as Weight Watchers International Inc use food diaries as an integral part of their weight loss program.

The bottom line ladies: It maybe a good idea to keep a food diary to help lose the weight and keep it off. Because, if you are aware of where the extra calories are coming from you will be more inclined to trim your tummy. And by knowing your areas of weakness, you can find a constructive way to deal with and improve your eating habits.

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-35057499037958357142008-09-10T07:22:00.000-07:002008-09-10T07:23:13.796-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - Confessions of a Cardio Mom

Whether you are in shape or not, it's possible to trim your tummy with interval training. Here's yet another article, by Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief of SELF magazine, attesting to the fact that you can trim your tummy and get results. To your weight loss success!!

"The way to shape up fast is no secret. Weight training will sculpt and build lean muscle, which (unlike fat) burns calories on its own; cardio (brisk walking, biking, jogging, etc.) will shed the fat hiding those defined muscles. I'm a cardio fan from way back (I love how it feels to get my heart rate up), but who wants to slog away on a treadmill in a dull gym, going nowhere fast (or slow, as the case may be)? Not me! Especially when you can spend less time and get better results.

The secret is intervals. Study subjects who spent just 20 minutes mixing sprints with jogging lost three times the fat off their legs and butt in 15 weeks, compared to those who jogged steadily for 40 minutes, research from the University of New South Wales in Sydney finds. Intervals may spark fat-mobilizing hormones, and they amp your cardio capacity so your future runs will actually feel easier.

I like relaxing runs, but if you do the same slog every day, you can suffer from what's sometimes called "postman's syndrome"—named for those who do the same walk every day and yet their bodies never change. Your muscles become so efficient at a movement over time that if you do it day after day and eat the same way, you never overtax your system and burn more calories to lose weight.

The answer is to mix up your cardio either by changing your workout around or adding speedy bursts—meaning intervals. Intervals can be fun if you approach them right. Each one represents a mini goal—finish the 1-minute sprint, complete the 2-minute cooldown, and so on. I feel more pumped up doing this and never get bored."

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-6619251687401987402008-09-03T09:21:00.000-07:002008-09-03T09:23:12.997-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - Out of the Mouth of a Celebrity Mom

It's always good to check the "grass on the other side" of the fence with the Celebrity Moms and see how "green" it is for them to trim their tummmies. The following is a relevant expert of a July 1, 2008 article By Laurie Sandell for GLAMOUR magazine for you to see that it takes hard work to trim your tummy:

The last time I interviewed Christina Aguilera for Glamour, it was in October 2006 and she was gearing up for her Back to Basics world tour. After I watched her grueling rehearsal, we sat down in her dressing room for a late-night chat. At the time, she was a confessed workaholic with a penchant for severe red lips, towering stilettos and perfectly manicured nails. She rarely met my eyes during the interview--a technique, she told me at the time, that helped her gather her thoughts--and while she was articulate, she seemed to choose her words very carefully. Almost two years later, I meet a very different Christina: The first thing I notice is that she looks me directly in the eyes--a nice improvement. She's relaxed and eager to talk about life with her six-month-old son, Max, and her husband of nearly three years, music exec Jordan Bratman. Her appearance is softer too. She wears her hair in a tousled ponytail and apologizes for her unmanicured nails. But as we talk about her career, it's clear that Aguilera's focus is as razor-sharp as ever: She's been working out 90 minutes a day to get back to her prebaby body, not to mention launching a new perfume called Inspire, promoting a jewelry line with designer Stephen Webster and working on an album that's set for release later this year. (Oh, and the woman's still a night owl: We meet at 10 P.M. at a West Hollywood lounge because she wanted to spend a full day with baby Max.) What else is new in this 27-year-old's life? Read on!

GLAMOUR: You're obviously back into fighting shape, so let's discuss this workout of yours: boxing, running backward on a treadmill while going uphill, crunches, weights, pull-ups--it sounds brutal.

CHRISTINA AGUILERA: [Laughs.] I hate working out--I have to mentally push myself through it. I can get very whiny, saying things like, "I can't do it!"

GLAMOUR: Does your trainer crack the whip when you get like that?

CA: No--I can't deal with having someone barking at me. Mean training is not motivating to me at all; I like to be comforted [through my workout]. All my trainer has to do is say nicely, "I want you to do 200 bicycles; go right through it and don't stop." Then I'll know she's serious and I'll do it. I started out not being able to do man push-ups; pull-ups were a big one too. Now I can do five in a row.

GLAMOUR: You look great, Christina. How quickly did you notice a change in your body?

CA: Being the perfectionist that I am, my attitude was, this had better hurry up--I want results! My trainer kept saying, "Give it time, you're looking great." Everyone around me was saying they could see a difference, but, you know, you're hardest on yourself. I did see my stomach get flatter and tighter and more muscle definition.

GLAMOUR: What did you like the least about your post baby body and what did you like the most?

CA: Well, I was OK with the booty and the boobs! [Laughs.] My stomach was really where I carried my weight. Toward the end of my pregnancy, I felt really big--I gained about 40 pounds, which is a lot for my size. My hips also changed significantly. And my feet grew from a size 5 to a size 7 in flats--thank God they [went back to normal]. I would have been so depressed if I had to get rid of my shoe collection!

Trim your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-68446946737080925032008-08-27T14:57:00.000-07:002008-08-27T14:58:07.982-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim your Tummy - The Scale Factor

We all want to see the fruits of our labors but we can also be slaves to the scale and this can put us on the slippery slope of despair to give up our quest to trim the tummy. You can stay focused and not freak-out if you aren't getting the results you expect to trim your tummy with the sound advice of Holly Rigsby, PCT, who just tells it like it is:

"How do You measure results? Use the bathroom scale? Once, twice, five times a day -holding your breath and tightly closing your eyes each time you step on, hoping and praying that darn number will go down!? Well, did you know it is best - when you begin a fat loss program - to avoid the scale? Scales only tell the TOTAL of your body's mass, lean and fat.

The scale cannot separate the muscles, bones, blood and organs from fat. The separation of lean mass and fat mass is called body composition: (the ratio determines your body fat percentage). This form of measurement offers more accurate information that relates to what you REALLY want to achieve - so if you are able to -get your body fat tested. Focusing on this number can cause problems because you have no way of knowing how much of that number is fat and how much is the rest of you.

The best way to judge your success and measure your Results IS to pay attention to your energy levels and the way your clothes fit. If you think about it, your clothes are the first indicator of weight gain, so look to the same source for progress.

I typically do not weight my clients until the 4th -6th week. Then that number is used along with body fat and inches AND an evaluation of mood, energy levels, strength, health concerns...to determine progress.

Yes your weight can fluctuate if you sneak a peek before then - my weight is up by 5 pounds by the end of the day. And it should be because I have been eating and drinking water all day long. As long as your clothing fits and you feel great - you are on track."

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-57375976887735771782008-08-20T08:18:00.000-07:002008-08-20T08:19:26.667-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - 3 Ways to Hike Up your Fat Loss

Hello Ladies,
Once again we have advice to help you trim your tummy from the fitness Mom for Busy Moms, Holly Rigsby, CPT, on how to keep up your fat loss momentum:

Trying to figure out what else you can do to your workout plan to achieve visible results? A VERY common question for many women who begin their fat loss plan. Take a look:

"Holly,

I have always had this little voice in the back of my head that says because I have so much weight to lose I need to be doing more....or something different.....like, maybe this is a great plan for someone with just 20 pounds to lose....or someone who just needs to firm up. Given my 90 pounds of extra fat.....do you recommend I do anything different? More cardio? Less cardio? More weights? Different exercises?"

My response:

Great question and a quick response is - no, more is not better....yes, the 9minutes of Fit Yummy Mummy workouts a week are all you need. Here are my Top 3 Strategies to Accelerate your Results:

1. Be consistent

2. Fine tune your nutrition plan

3. Be active every day

There are no short cuts around sure and steady results other than consistency. If you apply yourself and follow the strategies, with consistency, you will see results. Fat loss is a process. Take each day as an opportunity to do a little better than the day before and you will create a string of days and weeks that catapult you to visible, body shaping results.

If there is ever anything MORE you could be doing.....it is the effort you put in to your nutrition plan. this is where the fastest results will come from - not from the workouts themselves....since eating is what you have to do several times a day and well your workout only needs 90 minutes of your 168 hour week.

Finally, on the days you are not working out, make an effort to continue to stay active. You are not only burning fat and calorieswhen you workout, but after the fact as well. Keep your metabolism humming by making an effort to get up and move every hour. Incorporating abdominal exercises as part of your routine is good for improving your strength, but this type of spot reduction exercise is not a silver bullet to trim your tummy. It takes more than just doing many crunches to melt the stubborn belly fat.

When you want to lose your tummy, your aim is to increase your metabolism by using as many muscles as possible throughout your workout. You will burn more fat by concentrating on the larger muscles. Why? Because crunches only works your smaller stomach muscles and burn less calories compared to doubling or tripling the calories burned by exercising the entire body.

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-80403763256695893302008-07-29T16:49:00.000-07:002008-07-29T16:50:30.775-07:00Trim Your TummyTirm Your Tummy - The Skinny on Getting Mini

Image is everything...or is it? We live in a world that is unfortunately obsessed with youth and image. Don't agree? Just ask any woman. The Media dictates that women have to look a certain way and be a Super Mom. But that’s Hollywood talking. We can simply blame ourselves for bowing to the pressure. Weight loss is not skin deep. It's about achieving wellness.

Permanent weight loss is more than just a physical change. When it comes to losing the baby fat, you have to take into account your wellness. Our eating habits are governed by many factors such as lifestyle, stresses of the daily grind and emotional stress. Most diet strategies fail because they often omit or downplay the psychological component of weight management. This can trap us in the revolving door of weight loss. Losing pregnancy weight is a feasible task if, and only if, you do it holistically.

1. Find a lifestyle program that is convenient.

A lifestyle program addresses the psychological and physical aspects of weight management. Thus, it is a more effective means of achieving permanent weight loss and a healthy lifestyle than a diet pill, or trendy diet and exercise regime. It's weight loss for the long haul. Find a lifestyle program that gives you the convenience of providing a workout schedule, healthy recipes, and lifestyle tips plus other resources to keep you on course. It's like having a personal trainer, dietician, life coach and gym all in the comfort of your home, without the expense. Time is precious for active Moms and the convenience of having a home lifestyle program is a blessing in disguise.

2. Do exercises that maximize your time and your calories.

In order to lose the pregnancy weight fast, you need to find a workout program that can burn the baby fat and not be time consuming. Remember, you are a busy Mom that’s always on the go. One of the most effective exercises to burn the fat and tone the body is resistance interval training. Resistance training deals with using weights and works the muscle groups. This type of training strengthens the muscles (tones) and the bones. Muscle burns fat. And when done at high intensity, it also maintains your metabolism in the fat burning zone for a longer duration after exercise than a 45 min run on a treadmill.

3. Eat foods that help to boost metabolism and minimize fat storage.
A common problem area for most Moms is the tummy. To trim your tummy quickly you should help your body along by seeking the aid of fat burning foods. Fat burning foods are foods that require the body to expend more calories to digest it than it has. Eating these foods will help to increase your metabolism, thereby increasing your body's ability to burn fat. Foods that are high in protein and fiber such as lean meats, asparagus, broccoli, apples, and blueberries are good choices. When you incorporate more of these foods into your diet, you will not only lose your tummy but also improve the overall health of your body.

4. Get the family involved.

No one likes to face his or her battles alone. When you want to lose weight after giving birth involves committing to this task and embracing a healthy lifestyle. Why stop at yourself. What's good for you will also be good for your loved ones. Preparing healthier meals or engaging in family activities such as going for walks, bike riding, hiking, or swimming can spread the wellness and help to keep you motivated and focused.

The road to lose the pregnancy weight can be paved with good intentions. However, adopting a lifestyle program that encompasses the person as a whole and not just pounds of body fat, will keep you on track to reach your goal and live a healthier life. A healthy lifestyle results in a better quality of life. To quote Anne Dillard, "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives".

Trim Your Tummy

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-47046938944329224882008-07-21T12:33:00.001-07:002008-07-21T12:33:47.595-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - How To Get Your Mojo Back In No Time

Even if you are not a material girl living in a material world, the pressure to look like the Heidi Klum Moms of the celebrity world is unavoidable. And if you are not blessed with a ‘I-never-gain-weight-metabolism’ or a will power of steel and the discipline of a Buddhist monk, then you are like the majority of Moms who struggle to lose their pregnancy weight. But as they say, “hope is eternal”. Here’s why.

Women of today have the expectation to look like models and movie stars. Being pregnant seems to be the only reprieve society allows for women to not be their prefect size. But after the nine-month honeymoon, most women are expected to quickly lose weight after giving birth, especially if you are a celebrity. Whether the Hollywood baby boom is on or off, we women are amazed when we see celebrities "very" pregnant one day and within weeks after giving birth, back to their skinny pre-pregnancy body. We all know that they can afford a team of experts to get their bodies back to that pre-pregnancy size. They have no choice because image is a huge part of the entertainment industry and that's their incentive to get thin and stay thin. We too want to have the pre-pregnancy body back, not to be thin, but to be fit and healthy. The question is: Can you do it without the incentive of "fame & wealth", an expensive personal trainer, gym fees, and or other means of the rich and famous? The answer is a resounding YES!!

Most women, especially new Moms, who struggle with their weight, need to find a healthy and effective means of getting back to their normal figure. An excellent lifestyle course or program should have a beginning, middle and end to get you to achieve health and wellness.

1. Organize & You'll Drop A Size

The beginning part of a program should have an organized plan of action that includes things such as motivational primers and realistic goal settings. It should encourage you to be intrinsically motivated. IF you truly want to get "there" then you must be your own cheerleader and team captain. By thinking about and documenting the Why, How and WHAT you are going to DO in order to get "there", you will be in the right frame of mind to lose the pregnancy weight.

2. Dual Action Will Give You Satisfaction

The middle part of a program should have a realistic and user-friendly workout format. All women are not created equal and thus there should be a variety of exercise formats with easy to follow step-by-step instructions to satisfy the needs and lifestyle of the individual. The exercises should be designed for resistance training. Studies show that resistance training in short intervals at high intensity is more effective at burning fat for longer periods than aerobic exercises. And research also support that consistent resistance training will strengthen and tone muscles. Therefore, you should find a program that uses interval resistance training. Why? Because your goal is to burn the baby fat, trim your tummy and the rest of your body. Resistance interval training has the dual action of burning fat more effectively and toning the muscles. It also doesn't take a lot of time to do because interval training is intermittent and at high intensity.

3. A Good Resource Can Keep You On Your Course

The end of the program should have other resources to further assist you in achieving and maintaining your goal. So, if you are planning on losing the baby fat to lose your tummy, then any good program should have a nutrition guide or plan that can educate you with regards to healthy diet and eating habits. Your training can also be supplemented with goal setting and workout sheets, a fitness journal and various tools to combat the many obstacles that can get us to give up such as follow-up e-mails/newsletters with daily tips, and healthy recipes to keep you moving upward and onward.

Whether you want to lose weight after the baby or just to fit into your swimsuit this summer, women today want to look and feel good. This boils down to eating healthy and incorporating daily exercise into your lifestyle. You can lose pregnancy weight fast with a lifestyle program that uses a holistic approach to wellness. Keeping the 3 afore-mentioned things in mind, you will be better equipped to choose a program that's right for you.

Trim Your Tummy

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-5817774869662910522008-07-10T14:14:00.000-07:002008-07-10T14:15:30.100-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - Taking it Nice & Easy

Fat Loss, One A Day At A Time

By Holly Rigsby, CPT
FitYummyMummy

Rome wasn't built in a day and your fat loss won't happen that way either. Don't expect to start eating perfectly and exercising religiously tomorrow. Instead set yourself up for success by implementing at least one supportive habit per week. Make an effort to adopt the premise of "progress, not perfection." By developing awareness that improvement is measured by your daily progress, you can save yourself a lot of grief and frustration from the beginning. Focusing on small, positive steps in everything you do is a vital component to change. It starts you moving in the right direction and the momentum of your amazing, transforming results will soon follow. With time, commitment and a willingness to continue to take those small steps, failure is not an option.

How to do it: Be mindful of the fact that you didn't gain it overnight so you're not going to lose it overnight. A safe and effective fat loss program will yield 1 to 2 pounds of fat loss a week, not 10. As you begin your weight loss journey, aim for 2-3 small improvements each week. Build up to eating more supportively and moving a little more than yesterday. These small changes will add up to big improvements over time.

Beware of supplements and "quick fixes" that promise accelerated fat loss. Instead, plan on losing fat weight slowly. Sure we all want instant results, but it's impossible to undo a years of inactivity and poor nutrition overnight.

Instead of only looking at the big picture, try to break it down into smaller bites. Set one-month goals, three-month goals, six-month goals and even yearly goals. Carry over each previous goal to make sure that you aren't stopping one to achieve another. Make sure goals are achievable and realistic and what you truly want. A half-hearted desire will produce half-hearted results.

Remember, life happens and we must face the challenges. Sometimes that means not getting to exercise or eat properly. The difference is we get it. We make it a point to view each situation, each setback as an opportunity to LEARN and ASK, "What could I do differently next time?" Then it becomes a matter of getting back on track as soon as possible. Leave the excuses and blame behind and forget about beating ourselves up – we're only human. Strive to do a little better today than you did the day before. The key is to stay consistent, focused and take daily action. Make goals meaningful. Our minds cannot differentiate between achieving an enormous goal or a miniscule goal it only perceives success or failure. If you set a goal that is impossible to fail you'll only be setting yourself up for tremendous victory.

Don't be too rigid. Telling your self that you HAVE to workout for a set time to feel a sense of completion is ill fated. If you set out to workout for 30 minutes and you only get in 20, you'll more apt to be disappointed regardless of how hard you worked. If you simply set a goal to go to the gym at least 2-3 days a week and complete your resistance training and cardio you'll perceive yourself as a winner.

An additional goal idea: Have you ever wanted to participate in a race or sport that you've never had the endurance for? Then use that as a goal! When the end justifies the means it's easier to make it through the rough spots. It's a win-win situation if you are able to achieve a want and a need simultaneously!

About the Author

Holly Rigsby is a nationally recognized women’s fitness coach, certified personal trainer (CPT) and the author of the internationally popular e-book – Fit Yummy Mummy - Burn Your Baby Fat & Get Your Body Back. Short Burst, high intensity Intervals.

Intervals are a type of "cardio" workout where you alternate brief, high intensity periods of exercise (where you work out as intensely as you can), with active recovery periods, where you slow down just long enough to catch your breath.

The shorter, more-intense your session, the more calories you burn and you preserve lean muscle, which will make you look tight and lean as you reach your goals. In addition, the shorter, more intense sessions will have a more profound effect on the calories you continue to burn 24 hours after completing your interval session.

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-37930249976413026662008-06-20T09:52:00.000-07:002008-06-20T09:53:08.560-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - How To Do Intervals with Cardio

Hello again! Cardio training can help you to trim your tummy especially if you do it in short burst intervals. In the following, Holly Rigsby gives an example of How to Do Intervals to get you on the fast track to start burning that stubborn fat to trim your tummy:

EX: Walking on the Treadmill: Basic Program

Start with your normal three to five minute warm-up. About 5 minutes into your session, you will do your first interval, 30 seconds of brisk walking (or jogging). At the end of 30 seconds, you should be winded and ready to slow down. This will be your active recovery period, slowing your walking down for the next 2 minutes. Then repeat by increasing the intensity of your speed for 30 seconds.

3-5 minute warm up
30 sec. "high"
2 minutes "low"

Repeat this pattern for 3 to 8 complete Intervals and finish with a cool down.

If you are new to this style of cardio, you will find that a mere 8 minutes feels quite long and intense. That's when you know you'll never have to go back to long, tedious, time-wasting cardio again.

Intervals for Fat Loss:

The shorter and more intense the visit, the better. Plus, they burn calories and fat after the training session, and that's something you won't get from slower, longer sessions of cardio.

NOTE: You should not do intervals every day. You also will want to gradually add intervals to your workout routine, doing too much too soon may cause injury. As always, be sure to check with your physician before starting a new exercise or nutrition program.

There are hundreds of options that extend beyond a simple treadmill. Find a method you enjoy.

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-48883430076609455742008-06-11T16:01:00.000-07:002008-06-11T16:02:41.083-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - The On-Going Interval vs Cardio Training Debate

Yet again another bit of knowledge to chew on to trim your tummy, written by Holly Rigsby who is a devoted Mom and CPT.

Here are just 3 Benefits of Intervals over Steady State Cardio

1) Saves time. Most intervals last about 20 minutes in comparison to 1 to 2 hours on the treadmill with traditional steady state cardio - this occurs as many women pay attention to the immediate feedback of calories burned during the cardio session. However, true fat loss results are achieved based on calories burned in a 24 hour period - not during one workout session.

2) Stimulates a greater release of growth hormone. Studies have shown that intense and challenge interval training produces growth hormone which helps to increase lean muscle mass. Muscle is your metabolism. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn 24-7.

3) Eliminates Boredom. Interval training can be done with body weight exercises, machines, medicine balls, bands, free weights, and of course anything outdoors. - such as hills!

IMPORTANT:
This article isn't to suggest that there are no other possible solutions. Rather it is to provide moms with the most efficient and effective solution based on a combination of actual practical application and clinical research.

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-23978535249584733202008-06-06T11:30:00.000-07:002008-06-06T11:31:22.325-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - Fat Loss in the Summer

Here are some more great tips from Holly Rigsby to help trim your tummy.

Ready for a cool, high speed fat loss activity you can do at home?

We are all familiar with the benefits of Interval training. There are a variety of formats you can choose from when it comes to intervals. Most recently I shared the concept of Tabatas, a very challenging and intense 4 minute interval session.

Next I'd like to introduce you to Sprints!

Sprints are another super energizing and effective form of intervals. - Running at a higher speed than normal for a designated time or distance - After each sprint, resting long enough to catch your breath before the next one.

Sprint the Fat Off!

Adding sprints to your cardio routine not only adds variety and spices up your workout routine, but sprints are very effective in fat burning as you work intensely in each short burst, burning a far greater number of calories, elevating your metabolism for the next 24 hours AND sprints are excellent for developing your lower body muscles....including helping to shape a great butt and thighs.

FYI: Running with intensity means exercising just a little bit harder than usual. Using the perceived rate of exertion, on a scale of 1-10, you will run at an intensity of 7-9 depending on your fitness level.

As always, consult your physician before beginning any work out and before adding sprints to your routine.

Wait...it's summer - way TOO Hot to do Sprints outside....Then let me introduce you to Sprinkler Sprints! Tyler and I decided to pull out the sprinkler yesterday for it was 90 degrees and Gorgeous! We used an Oscillating Sprinkler. Tyler wanted me to play with him - how could I resist! As I set the sprinkler up and watched Tyler run back and forth in time to the oscillating bands of water, I remembered playing a similar game as a child - running as fast as we could through the sprinkler while the band of water was Down.....then I realized that we were simply running sprints!

"Sprinkler Sprints"

The goal was to run as fast as we could to reach the other side before getting "hit" by the band of water, taking a break to wait for the band of water to get down to the other side and running back through it again! The cool thing is the high speed bursts are timed for you as you use watch the back and forth motion of the oscillating sprinkler!

Added Benefits:
You are having a Blast as you Blast Fat, staying cool by running through the sprinkler, laughing throughout the entire activity and creating great summer memories with your children. Just one more tool to make your Summer Fitness plan fun and effective.

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-27181804458902854592008-05-30T12:08:00.000-07:002008-05-30T12:09:41.848-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - Holiday Eating Tips

Summer's fast approaching. The following was written by Holly Rigsby of Fit Yummy Mummy and gives good advice on how to trim your tummy over the holidays (especially these summer holidays).

Weekends are hard enough as it is, when a holiday is attached it only exposes you to more temptations!

No need to worry, what follows are 2 simple tips to help you enjoy this festive weekend without the guilt and added pounds that come from overindulging.

HOW to EAT - Plan Ahead

You know the quote..."No one plans to fail - we simply fail to plan." The amount of damage you can prevent by simply having an idea ahead of time what you will eat and drink this weekend will save you bunches of extra calories and guilt.

Going to a BBQ?
Be aware of choices - Grilled Chicken over Hamburger
Be aware of portion sizes - go for palm sized protein, load up on fruits and veggies, choose spoon sized tastes of high calorie sides
Be aware of calories consumed - avoid high calorie appetizers andmultiple servings
Be aware of hidden calories - condiments count too and consider what you choose to drink.

It is very easy to go to a cookout and consume well over 1,000 calories worth of food and drink. Simply being aware gives you the control to at the very least minimize your calorie intake, preventing the addition of unwanted pounds.

HOW to MOVE - Super Set It and Forget It

The past four days I shared the BEST moves to boost your metabolism and burn more fat - now for the FUN part of putting them all together so you have a PLAN to follow.

The essence of the Fit Yummy Mummy workout plan is based around short burst resistance training. This simply means pairing two exercises together and perform back to back with little to no rest. You will repeat this sequence 2-4 times depending on your fitness level.

Sample Workout:
A1 Squats (lower body)
A2 Push Ups (upper body push)

B1 Lunges (lower body)
B2 Row (upper body pull)

C1 Wood Chop (full body - core)
C2 Plank (core)

Repetitions of each move range from 8-15.

Give it a try and you will be amazed at how much you get done in such a short period of time. Since the time you have this weekend is most likely limited, you now have no excuse. All you need is 10 -15 minutes. For almost all mothers the changes their bodies incur during pregnancy coupled with the countless responsibilities that motherhood bring spell trouble for regaining their pre-pregnancy figure.

There is no shortage of fitness, diet and fat loss products on the market today. You can find a veritable library of conflicting arguments almost anywhere you choose to seek information on the subject of fitness for women, whether it’s online, at your local library, through contact with personal trainers, or through the (less reputable but nevertheless very common) ranks of wannabe experts: aka, those frustrating people with no qualifications and no practical experience but are self professed experts because they ready the last issue of Shape magazine.

What Sets This Product Apart?

After months of frustration spent trawling through the mass of conflicting information on fitness and fat loss, it was with a mixture of joy and near-tearful relief that I stumbled across “Fit Yummy Mummy”, by Holly Rigsby. As the title suggests, this product is specifically for moms wanting to get fit. Literally all aspects of losing fat and getting fit are covered – and the best part is that it is written specifically for busy moms. The material is presented in a manner both chatty and educational – it’s kind of like having a friendly conversation with a close friend that happens to be a fitness expert (with the added benefit of being able to refresh your understanding of the matter at any given time, simply by scrolling back to the relevant section!)

The tone of the book presents a welcome contrast to the other fitness products so freely available elsewhere on the Net: it’s friendly, understanding of the unique situations moms face, informative, and above all, commonsensical. No unrealistic recommendations, 2 hour workouts, or zero-carb diets here: it doesn’t take long to see that this lady knows what she’s talking about when it comes to mom’s lifestyles (and did I mention she’s a mom too?)

What’s Actually Included?

There’s a quick section on getting started and goal setting along with some morale-boosting advice on how to stay on track throughout the program, and then it’s straight into an action plan to get you started on the path to burning baby fat and getting your body back.

The Supportive Nutrition Plan is next – this is particularly helpful! Every conceivable nutrition issue is covered, from how often you should eat to what you should keep in your pantry. And on top of that, it includes a ‘Create a Menu Planner’ to guide you in creating every meal to support your success.

Next, the Fit Yummy Mummy fat loss workouts are covered, but not without easy to follow explanations of the why’s and the how’s for every part of the workout program. The workout plan even offers four different formats that you can plug into your lifestyle, something not found in any of the cookie cutter fat loss programs on the market. My favorite part of the workout section is that regardless of your exercise (or lack of exercise) background, there is a workout designed specifically for you. And no matter what you fitness level is, none of the workout programs require more than 90 minutes a week.

Finally, there’s a section called the Busy Mom’s Fat Loss Companion crammed with easy to use tools and resources like a goal setting sheet, fitness journal, exercise descriptions and even a ready made grocery list. The author has figured out every excuse and obstacle busy moms have and addressed them all.

Just Because It’s Detailed Doesn’t Mean It’s Confusing

Sound overwhelming? It’s actually very user-friendly. Not only is this e-book packed with sound practical advice and the whole thing is laid out in a very logical and easy-to-understand format, but it comes with a Quick Start Guide to make sure you start acting (and seeing results) fast. The tone of Fit Yummy Mummy light and non-threatening (no scientific terminology here!) and it proceeds in a logical manner from step to step, with plenty of photos and descriptions to ensure that you are doing everything right.

Troubleshooting

In my opinion, one of the best parts: a follow up e-mail coaching series from the author that keeps you on track, gives you daily fitness tips and even healthy recipes. While most moms have the best of intentions, staying on track is tough. This follow up e-mail coaching series is the perfect solution.
The Verdict

Regaining their pre-pregnancy body is a daunting task for most moms, but the author’s personal experience and hands on work with over 250 moms is pretty reassuring; and she certainly knows how to break it down for even the most exercise illiterate. In addition to the main features detailed above, there are plenty of valuable extras included to make getting your pre-baby body back as easy as possible: checklists, do’s and don’ts, printable workout sheets, even ready to follow meal plans!

All in all, two thumbs up from me: when the information on hand is as detailed, easy to absorb, and - above all – reliable as Fit Yummy Mummy, you really can’t go wrong.

Trim Your TummyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8165268608924615212.post-70656401226189328642008-05-15T14:48:00.000-07:002008-05-15T14:50:59.753-07:00Trim Your TummyTrim Your Tummy - WELCOME

Welcome to our new blog where you will be able to learn how to trim your tummy and expand your knowledge of health and fitness for women.
